We are excited for the sports seasons and after-school activities to be underway. Lancaster County School District places safety for students, staff, and community members as a priority. Please join us in keeping our campuses and facilities safe. First and foremost, we expect every visitor to our activities to be respectful toward the athletes, thespians, band members, staff, administrators, other guests, and law enforcement partners working at our events. All guests to our district events are required to adhere to our Clear Bag Policy. When guests come to our facilities, they will not be permitted into the activities with any bag other than a clear bag. The bags also may not be larger than 12 by 12 inches and 6 inches deep. For more information. click on the Clear Bag Policy. Weapons are not permitted on school property – including during sporting events, forums, and arts performances - unless you are a sworn law enforcement officer permitted to carry with proper identification. Our Safety and Security team will be working entrances to many of our events to screen guests for weapons. Entry to District Events This year we have revised our entry guidelines for school events to promote a safer environment for our community. Anyone under the age of 18 not currently enrolled in school must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult. Elementary and middle school students must have an adult accompany them at events. No elementary and middle school students will be permitted to stay unaccompanied. Guests to our events will not be allowed to stand, congregate, or “hang out” in the concourse or around the concession stand areas during events. Any violation of rules may result in removal or being trespassed. Our safety and security team will continue collaborating with the Lancaster Police Department and Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office to ensure everyone can feel comfortable and safe in our facilities. *This applies to all events open to the public. This does not apply to internal school events that are not open to the public such as prom, dances, club/organization activities Updated 9/11/24

We have a throw back to August for you! That’s like, a million years ago at this point, right?! 😉 Students in Ms. Harden’s fifth grade science glass worked together to investigate the question “What is the effect of the pull of gravity on objects on Earth?” Students were able to visually represent that the gravitational pull gets weaker the further you get from the center of the Earth. Students had a great time investigating gravity! It’s official. These gravity projects were an epic way to start the year for our 5th graders. Thanks for sharing, Ms. Harden!

Mrs. Arner teaches 6th grade Social Studies and has been a member of the ILIS family since it started 4 years ago. Each year, she has really fun, engaging and creative projects for her students to complete, including this one! She writes, "My classes learned about early human hunter gatherers and learned they expressed themselves through cave art. They then worked in groups to create their own cave art about themselves! This taught the class all about each other. " Great job, students! Your work is amazing!

We don't know if you've heard the exciting news- but operations with rational numbers can be fun. 🤩 Mrs. Kobos’ 6th grade Math classes completed a scavenger hunt with adding and subtracting rational numbers around the classroom! Thanks for sharing with us, Ms. Kobos, and great work kids!

Last week Ms. Metcalf, one of our wonderful 5th Grade Math & Science teachers, thought she'd bring a classic game into the lesson! Students in her class practiced graphing on the coordinate plane while playing Battleship! Students had a blast and got some great practice with this important lesson! Great work kids, AND Ms. Metcalf!

Parents, please help us communicate this message to your students! Starting Monday, we will have a cart in the front lobby. Parents dropping off lunch boxes or water bottles can place them there, with a post-it note labeling the item. At 10:30, before the first lunch block, we will wheel it down to the cafeteria. Any students who forgot their lunch at home can check the cart before heading into lunch! As with all deliveries, we ask that all lunch boxes are delivered before 10:30. We will make sure to remind students during the morning announcements all next week of this new practice. Our goal is to minimize disruptions from calling into classrooms. Again, please let students know of this new procedure so if they forget their lunch at home they'll be prepared to look at the cart. Thank you, Warriors!

Welcome Back
We have two AMAZING women teaching Journalism in our encore department- Ms. Lail and Ms. Brandwood! Their curriculum (and creativity!) allows students to make awesome content for our campus. We will share more from them as the year goes on! But for now, Ms. Lail wanted to share what happened in her class this week. She writes, "We hosted show and tell in class this week- but with a twist! I asked students to bring in "Biography Bags" so we could get to know each other better! Along with student participation, we had a special visitor- Mr. Miller joined us today with HIS biography bag! He told us all about his time serving in the army and how he came to be a teacher! " It's been great having our staff, students and parents get to know Mr. Miller. If you'd like to get to know him better too, be sure to check out his Facebook Live every Monday at 2:45pm! Thanks for sharing, Ms. Lail!

Ms. Kiel is starting her third year teaching 6th grade science at ILIS! We love to see all the amazing things she has going on in her room. Today she is sharing a project her kids worked on. She writes, "Today we spent the day trying to figure out which brand of paper towels was the most absorbent. We know we may have some spills this year, so this is an important topic over here….lol. We briefly touched on the scientific method, volume of liquid and the cellulose fibers existent in paper towels. Students experimented in groups and were able to see water being absorbed through capillary action into each of the three paper towels. A great time was had by all!" Thanks for sharing, Ms. Kiel! Have a great year!

Dear Parents and Guardians, I want to begin by extending my sincerest apologies for the confusion and frustration many of you have experienced regarding bus routes for the start of this school year. The safety of your children is our top priority, and I deeply regret that the communication surrounding their transportation has not met the standards you deserve and expect from us. The information that was shared with you was believed to be accurate at the time of distribution. However, it has become clear that there were significant errors or omissions in the data, which have caused undue stress and concern for many families. I take full responsibility for this situation, and I understand how critical reliable transportation is for our students and families. Please know that our transportation office is working diligently to correct these errors and will provide you with all bus route information as quickly as possible. We understand the impact this has on your daily routines and your peace of mind, and we are committed to making things right. Moving forward, we are taking immediate steps to ensure that our communication is clear, accurate, and timely. We are also implementing additional checks and safeguards to prevent this kind of issue from occurring again in the future. Your trust is important to us, and we are dedicated to restoring it through improved communication, transparency, and an unwavering focus on student safety. We will keep you informed of any further updates, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through these challenges. The updated link for bus routes is listed below: https://lancastercsdsc.sites.thrillshare.com/o/safety-transportation/page/safety-transportation-bus-routes If you have any questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to the transportation office. We are here to support you and your children every step of the way. Thank you for your continued partnership and for entrusting us with the care of your children. Yours for Excellence in Education, Raashad Fitzpatrick, Ed.D. Superintendent Lancaster County School District
