We are throwing it back on this Half Day Thursday with a beautiful project from Mr. Pendarvis’s room!
He writes, “We did a project called “Constellation Creation” for our unit of Observing the Stars. As the name suggests, we created constellations, and the students wrote their own stories about them.
There was a competition between all three classes, where every student voted for their top 5 favorite constellations with the stories that went along with them.
The voting was close but the winner of the Pendarvis’ class Constellation Creation Competition of 2023 is Lauren H. with her constellation Lily the Lion.
Way to go Lauren! Honorable mentions go out to our 2nd place winner, Hannah Largent and 3rd place winner, Camden Sulhan!”
What a creative and interactive project, Mr. Pendarvis. Everyone did a wonderful job!

We want to send a H-U-M-O-N-G-O-U-S and G-A-R-G-A-N-T-U-A-N congratulations to our School Spelling Bee winners! First place is Aiden Rabinowitz (6th, Komorous) with the winning word "bassist"! But I promise you, there were some doozies in there that he had to get correct to take the top spot. Our second place winner is Crosby Holst (6th, Mallett)! Both boy showed tremendous sportsmanship as they battled it out for many rounds. 25 to be exact!
We also want to acknowledge Anirudh Prassana (5th, Hensley) and Ritesh Dhokte (5th, Riggins) who tied for third place! Everyone did such a great job, and we are so proud of our Warriors!
Wishing you lots of luck at the district spelling bee, Aiden! 💙💛

Don't Forget!

Check out what's going on at ILIS! The semester's almost over, but we're still working hard! :)

We hope you're enjoying the last few days of your break! If you're out running any errands before school resumes, please keep our nurse's station in mind! We are looking for donations of travel sized deodorant (both boys and girls), as well as feminine hygiene products. Thank you so much for your help!

Ms. Buck wanted to share what she had going on in her neck of the woods! She writes, “These pictures were taken during our sound and light wave unit. Students were asked to apply their learning about the behavior of waves by designing an optical security system to protect a fictitious gemstone exhibition. In groups students were tasked to design a system using lenses and mirrors to direct a beam of light from a flashlight around an obstacle so that it hits a target. Students were given certain constrains and criteria to follow and everyone hit the target!”
Thanks for sharing Ms. Buck! The project looks AWESOME!

ILIS’s first ever Heart & Sole team completed their 5K on December 2nd! The girls spent ten weeks training for this goal and we are so proud of their accomplishments. The girls not only found the confidence within themselves to run, but also developed meaningful friendships along the way.
Thank you coaches Ms. Crider, Ms. Metcalf and Ms. Chiravelli for taking your time out of your personal life to coach these girls and form a new community within this school!

We have another fun project from the 6th graders at ILIS!
Ms. Kiel's students were tasked with completing 3D models of plant and animal cells. They had a great time and helped put their knowledge of this topic to the test! She also made it a point to say that all her students worked SO hard, and they should be very proud of themselves!
Enjoy the photos of the projects, and be sure to zoom in to really get a good view! You did awesome, Kiel's Kiddos!!

Ms. Garrison and Ms. Norton had a creative, interactive and festive project for their classes! Earlier in December, their students wrote haikus to go with ornaments they made. The following week, they did a "tree lighting" where students shared their haikus and ornaments, and then hung them on their class "poetrees" (Ms. Garrison knows it's actually spelled poetry, but she is very proud of her dad joke level pun, so we're going with it 😁). Teachers were then invited over two days to nominated a "guest from honor" from another class to come light the trees! It was such a great project, and a lovely gesture to invite the school to participate! Great job Ms. Garrison and Ms. Norton!

From B hall to J Pod, and everywhere in between, the halls at ILIS are full of staff members who made the NICE list! To close out an incredible December to Remember, the Admin Team (rocking the sweatshirts they gave to everyone last week!) took the Snack Sleigh all around! Teachers and staff were able to grab as many sweets, salty snacks and drinks as they could, followed by Mr. Johnson usually saying, "Wait! Get more!"🍫🥨🍪🥤🍬
We also want to take a moment to thank Admin for all they did for us this month to close out the calendar year with a bang. They kicked off December to Remember with a beautiful breakfast from Famous Toastery, wrote over 115 personal notes attached to candy for Candy grams, gave us awesome sweatshirts and closed it out by bringing out the snack sleigh. 💙We always feel loved and appreciated at ILIS💙. Thank you so much for going out of your way to downright spoil us!
We want to give another big thank you to PTO for our Pizza lunch (with lunch coverage!) and T-Shirts for staff, as well as donuts for the kids! We are so grateful for all you do! 💛
And lastly, thank you to all the students and staff who dressed up on all the days. It was a marathon of creative, festive frocks and we hope you had as much fun as we did.
We will see you in 2024, Warriors!!

Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season!

Even with all the excitement of Winter Break ahead, our 5th graders got to have a field trip to Winthrop University! Over the course of two days, our 5A and 5B teams loaded up on buses and traveled to what could be their future college campus!
The goal of this visit was for students to “Begin with the End in Mind”, start to plan for their future and learn all about college! They got a chance to see what a university looks like, go on a scavenger hunt, and ask questions to gain further knowledge about careers they can attend college for.
Overall it was such a successful experience and our Warriors had a blast! Now parents- you know what to do! Swipe, swipe, swipe to check out all the fun! There are a TON of photos on Facebook, so be sure to check that out!
Thank you Winthrop University for hosting us!

Our amazing Nurse Leslie and her assistant Michaela are looking for supplies for the nurse's station! We are asking for donations of travel size deodorant (for boys and girls) as well as feminine hygiene products. Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Congratulations to Ms. Anderson, Ms. Riddle and Ms. Gavigan, as well as ALL of our Chorus and Band students, on beautiful performances Tuesday and Wednesday Night! To see how far our Warriors have come in a short amount of time is incredible. Students have their first in-school experience in chorus or band when they get to ILIS. So at minimum they just picked up their instrument or started singing in chorus for the first time in August, at most they’ve been playing for almost a year and a half. Their teachers take the time to not only help them learn how to play their instrument or sing as a group, but also teach them music theory to help them understand what they’re doing on a deeper level.
Congratulations again to our talented Warriors! We are already looking forward to the Spring concerts!

Don't forget- Last Chicken Biscuit sale of 2023!! We will see you bright and early in the car rider line!

Perfect Pairs day was a hit! The amount of twins, trios and groups that participated yesterday way surpassed expectations! Some were crafted, some were curated, some were identical down to every detail. Our Warriors did an AMAZING job, and were *so creative*! Be sure to scroll through, and check out even more photos on Facebook, the looks were on point. 😁
We can’t thank our families enough for all the participation we’ve had in our dress up days during this December to Remember. But guess what- we aren’t done yet! Tomorrow is Clash of the Carolers (5th wears yellow, 6th wears blue, ALL staff wears black!). On the 19th we have Over the River and Through the woods- rock your best camo and plaid!

Tonight we have our amazing Band’s Winter Concert! Some of our Warriors are in their second year, some have just picked up instruments for the first time this August. But all of our Warriors have worked incredibly hard under the guidance of Ms. Riddle and her assistant Ms. Gavigan to get to where they are today!
We hope you're able to see them perform tonight at the ILHS Auditorium! Concert starts at 6:30pm. As always, it's a clear bag policy at the door.
💛💙Good Luck tonight, Warrior Band!💙💛

We are so excited to kick off ILIS's Winter Concerts with our 5th & 6th Grade Chorus! Ms. Anderson and her students have worked hard to create a beautiful program and we hope you're able to make it! Students will be performing ✨TONIGHT✨ at 6:30pm at the high school auditorium.
Be sure to check the comments on Facebook to see clips and get a sneak peek into the music you'll hear tonight! We are so proud of them. 💙
💡Please remember this is a clear bag policy!
