Families- don't forget to support our first ever Spring Food Drive! It will be a battle between 5th and 6th grade, but ultimately we ALL win as we support our local food banks. We are accepting any canned or boxed non-perishable foods. Have your students bring their items to their home room every morning all next week!
Thank you so much for your donations, can't wait to see which grade comes out on top!

In 10 days, we have our FIRST EVER Encore Expo! We cannot wait for our families to join us to see what our students have been working on in their encore classes!
Not only will work be on display, but it will also be opening night of the book fair! To round out the Friday night fun, there will be three food trucks on site.
We hope to see you there!

Ms. Riddle is making sure the students’ voices are heard in this fun take on a sports classic!
Ms Riddle writes: “March Madness is in full swing in the band room as the tournament kicks off on March 4! This March Madness is presented by the US Marine Band and primarily features the marches of John Phillip Sousa as well as John Williams and Percy Grainger. Each week, students will listen to march matchups and vote on their favorite via the Marine Corp website. The tournament will continue through March 28.”
Thanks for sharing, Ms. Riddle! Parents, be sure to ask your students who they’re voting for, and may the best “march” win!

Is your student interested in Cheer? Ms. Harris is the cheerleading coach at Indian Land Middle School and she has exciting news for you! They are hosting a cheer camp over the summer for rising first through sixth graders and hope to see your students there!

Happy Wednesday, Warriors!
On Monday, Mrs. Boykin's class researched an influential African American and did guided notes on each. They put all the information together to make a colorful and interesting banner! Students also took advantage of the beautiful weather we had during their recess!
W hope you all have a great day!

Ms. Hensley's 5th grade ELA classes made beautiful banners that we'd love to share with our ILIS community!
She writes: "My 1st and 2nd block classes spent time this month learning and researching about influential people for Black History Month! They worked so hard to create these banners to tell all they learned about these figures and to celebrate their contributions!"
We hope you enjoy them as much as we do! Great job, Warriors!

Reminder about the Community Health Fair Next Week!

Happy Friday! We hope everyone enjoyed their short week!
Last week, Ms. Kobos had her 6th grade math students get a change of scenery and bring classwork out into the halls! Students had the opportunity to learn to reflect points across the y and x-axes and find the distance between two points using movement.
Looks like fun, Ms. Kobos, thanks for sharing!

Our Warriors are shining so bright- good thing they’re working with shades! 😎 Students in Mrs. Roberts' and Mrs. Goodwin's 5th grade class worked on their engineering skills this week. In order to tie design and engineering into Black History Month, they have been learning about different African-American scientists and inventors. Lonnie Johnson, inventor of the Super Soaker water gun, really sparked their interest. To get a better understanding of the engineering process, students were tasked to come up with an improvement for a regular pair of sunglasses. They had a limited selection of materials to use, so they were required to be very imaginative. By the end of the activity, everyone had designed and built a prototype of their idea and decided who their target group would be.
Mrs. Roberts and Mrs. Goodwin made history and science combine with this hands-on, out-of-the-box project. Everyone did such a great job!

We hope you're all enjoying this beautiful weather as much as we are!
Students from Ms. Cain, Ms. Gall, Ms. Pickron and Ms Phillip's classes got outside and looked for examples of different spheres in the Earth's systems (geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and biosphere).
Now, if you're hoping to discuss this with your kiddos at home, let us help explain what that means! 😂 Geosphere is all the rock on earth, hydrosphere is all the water, atmosphere is all the gases surrounding earth, and biosphere is all living things on earth! Be sure to ask them what they discovered! 🕵️♀️🌎🕵️♂️
Thanks for giving the kids an opporutinty for a hands on, "in the field" lesson today, Ms. Cain, Ms. Gall, Ms. Pickron and Ms. Phillips!

We hope you’re having a great Monday off, Warriors! Ms. Buck snapped these photos last week, and we had to share them with our families! Mr. Weiss is not only a Social Studies extraordinaire. He not only specializes in Drama and the Drama Club. It turns out he is also an EXPERT Duck-Duck-Goose extraordinaire! We love to see it, Mr. Weiss, and I bet the kids loved your participation during recess!
We will see everyone tomorrow, enjoy the rest of your day!

From Our ILIS Family to yours, we want to wish you all a very Happy Valentine’s Day! We felt the “💕hearts💕” throughout the building from celebrating such a fun day of the year. Everyone looked great in their hues of pinks and reds! Admin gave Staff something especially sweet: Everyone got to order their very own Crumbl cookie, hand delivered by their Admin! The kids aren’t the only ones going home with some extra sugar-fueled energy! 😉
We hope you all have a great rest of your day! We LOVE our Warrior Families!

Yesterday, students from ILIS competed in Special Olympics bowling at Rock Hill! Several schools from around the area were there competing with each other. Every lane had a friendly competition going on, and every competitor walked away with a ribbon! It was great catching up with friends who have moved on to middle school. 💙After bowling was done, athletes enjoyed a pizza lunch! Thank you so much to all the volunteers who made this event a success!
We are so proud of our Warriors!

Hey Warrior Families! Is your rising 7th grader interested in joining Dance or Cheer at ILMS? Check out the flyer below for more information!

Zoom in and take a peek, these lost and found items are from just last WEEK!
If you recognize something, have your students swing by the lost and found and grab their item tomorrow!

Our Counselors have felt the love all week long during National School Counselors Week! Admin treated them to lunch today, Ms. Boykin's class made flowers out of paper & hand delivered them, and Warrior Families generously showered them with notes and treats to thank them for all they do. Ms. Berry, Ms. Brown and Ms. Healey exemplified their own generosity by gifting the staff sweet swag bags! Just a reminder of the many way our counselors support ILIS students: they run small groups, create opportunities on campus for activities like Yoga and Worthy Warrior, give birthday treats to each and every student during their birthday month, have breakfast check ins and lunch groups, and so much more.
You help make our community so special, Counselors. We appreciate all you do for our students at ILIS!

Ms. Buceys class also got to enjoy a lesson with Twizzlers!
She writes: "Mrs. McKinney came to work with my students last week while they were learning how to divide fractions. Each student was given a twizzler which they were dividing into pieces to show how when fractions are divided by whole numbers, their answers will be smaller the fraction they started with. Students were so engaged and enjoyed this lesson with Mrs. McKinney—especially since they got a yummy treat out of it!”
Thanks Mrs. McKinney for helping our students out with this fun lesson!

Ms. Ray found a way to teach her students math with a "twist they couldn’t resist"! That’s right- they got to review fractions using TWIZZLERS today! We love that our teachers are always finding new (and delicious!) ways to bring lessons to life. Great job to Ms. Ray and her students!

Check out the Wall of Wonder, a display created by Ms. Boykin in honor of Black History Month! It features art and music history of the Harlem Renaissance. It’s not only informative but also interactive! Students can see it outside the cafeteria across from her room.
It looks awesome, Ms. Boykin! You did an amazing job, and the students love it, too!

Lancaster County’s ✨Dancing with the Stars ✨ winners are our very own 5th grade teachers, Ms. Kolbie Hinson & Ms. Dayna Bucey!
They killed it with jazz routine from the movie Trolls! Dancing to “September”, “I whip my hair back and forth”, and “Can’t stop the feeling”, our 5th grade math teachers lit up the stage Saturday night performing their hearts out at AJMS. This is an annual event that helps raise money for the Fine Arts Department at AJMS. Ms. Hinson and Ms. Bucey were paired up with two dance students from AJMS who they met up with twice a week for about a month to practice their dance and learn from them. The moms of these students created their bright beautiful backdrop which pulled the whole dance together!
We are SO proud of everyone, and Congratulations again to Ms. Bucey & Ms. Hinson for winning ⭐️Dancing with the Stars!⭐️
